In Givan Lötz’s richly tetured paintings, perception and learning meets in an intuitive approach to making. “My current artistic interests lie in reference to places of emotional resonance, reading a landscape to trace visual objects. I am searching for enchantment in natural terrain, drawn to organic forms and their innate cycles of growth and decay,” he explains.
Paint provides a way to mimic reactions and processes through layers and manipulation, and organic streaks interrupt and intersect across the surface, mirroring the routes of subterranean creatures or insects burrowing through wood. “I hope to trace a connection with the narratives of displacement and loss that are embedded in landscape – to find a solace in the regenerative cycles of nature by binding outer place (landscape) and inner world (mind-state).”
